Music
Does music heal emotional suffering? Research says yes.
Whilst not a music therapist, my training as a professional musician and my deep love for all things musical has led me to incorporate music as a powerful treatment for mental health issues.
When we listen to music our brain releases dopamine; a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain's reward and pleasure centres. Dopamine also helps regulate movement and emotional responses and is essential for the healthy functioning of the central nervous system. Music lifts mood, reduces anxiety, raises motivation and helps combat anxiety and depression.
It’s not for everyone but when it works, it’s healing powers are transformative. It is also a wonderful way to independently calm anxiety and connect with yourself, improving mental health and general well-being.
